HIGHLIGHT VERSES | Psalms 57:4-8 My soul is among lions; I lie among the sons of men Who are set on fire, Whose teeth are spears and arrows, And their tongue a sharp sword. Be exalted, O God, above the heavens; Let Your glory be above all the earth. They have prepared a net for my steps; My soul is bowed down; They have dug a pit before me; Into the midst of it they themselves have fallen. Selah. My heart is steadfast, O God, my heart is steadfast; …….. NKJV
SOME SIGNPOST WORDS | ‘WHEN MORNING BRINGS THE LIONS’
SOME OBSERVATIONS | Together with Psalm 16 & 56, four of our Psalms for tonight (57-60) are set to the lost tunes of ‘The Silent Dove in Distant Lands/Oaks,’ ‘Do not Destroy,’ and ‘Lily of Testimony,’ and are part of six ‘Golden Psalms,’ the six ‘Precious Psalms,’ the six ‘Mitcham’s’ or ‘Miktam’s’ produced by David the King. Whether they were to be played with particular wind instruments or with accompanying cymbals, this makes them all most ‘notable’ Psalms in both delivery and content, the high points being marked with a ‘Selah,’ or literally, a ‘nota bene’ or a ‘note well,’ and no doubt a cymbal crash to boot!
A CALL TO ACTION | Sometimes we awake to find ourselves surrounded by ravenous lions. Sometimes they are the enemy surrounding our camp, sometimes they are the enemies within our camp, the latter being the most frightening, as they have metamorphosed before our eyes into something that might even consume us. When either happens, let us listen for the crash of heaven’s cymbals, & then fix our eyes on God.
