MORNING | POETRY
BOOK 19 of 66 | Psalms 1 & 2 & 15
Signpost Words | ‘LIKE JOBBIES IN A SEWER’
Highlight Verses | Psalms 15:1-5
YAHWEH, who may abide in Your tabernacle? Who may dwell in Your holy hill? He who walks uprightly, And works righteousness, And speaks the truth in his heart; He who does not backbite with his tongue, Nor does evil to his neighbor, Nor does he take up a reproach against his friend; In whose eyes a vile person is despised, But he honors those who fear the Lord; He who swears to his own hurt and does not change; He who does not put out his money at usury, Nor does he take a bribe against the innocent. He who does these things shall never be moved. (NSB)
Some Observations |
A vile person is someone who is abhorred, that is, rejected in disgust. A vile person is someone who has rejected the Word of YAHWEH, and who has, therefore, rejected God. A vile person is someone who vilifies the Most High and His servants. A vile person is someone who walks willfully and contrary to both God and His commandments. The upright man despises such a vile person, not just his sin, but his person. This despising is manifest in a walking away from, an avoiding, a lightly esteeming, a rejecting, a treating as nothing, an ignoring, a shunning. The upright man separates himself from such vile people. Hollywood is full of the vile. Comedy is awash with the vile, like jobbies in a sewer. The music industry is compacted with the vile. Parliament and politics are full of the vile, floating in the Westminster loos like turds with plastic grins, surpassing the stuck on smile of Mr Potato head.
Final Reflections |
What are you watching, following and listening to? Are you upright?

EVENING | POETRY
BOOK 19 of 66 | Psalms 22-24
Signpost Words | ‘WE BOW AND BEND TO WHAT?’
Highlight Verses | Psalms 24:3-6
Who may ascend into the hill of YAHWEH? Or who may stand in His holy place? He who has clean hands and a pure heart, Who has not lifted up his soul to an idol, Nor sworn deceitfully. He shall receive blessing from the Lord, And righteousness from the God of his salvation. This is Jacob, the generation of those who seek Him, Who seek Your face. Selah (NSB)
Some Observations |
Is this a generation that has walked contrary to its singing? Have we sought our idols and cast them down? Have we cast a noose around all that is higher than God is in our hearts and minds and dragged it crumbling to the dust. The keys to idolatry are found first in our in our verbal conversations. What does the church congregation speak about before and after the service? Saucer in the one hand and cup in the other, quietly float through the post service scoffing of donuts and chatter and listen in. Soccer, football, holidays, shopping malls, houses, music, T.V. All the stuff of Western life for sure, and all indicative of misplaced values, even of idolatry. I wonder if we talk so little of God because we know so little of Him? I wonder if we desire so little of God because we have had enough of Him? Enough to get by living as we like. I wonder if the generation of ‘history makers’ have shown their true colors in light chai latte greens, and proved themselves to be nothing but smooth expensive froth?
Final Reflections |
O God let this be a generation that seeks Your face, O God of Jacob.
