| June 23rd | Reading 175 of 366 | MORNING | HISTORICAL BOOKS | BOOK 13 of 66 | 1 CHRONICLES 23,24 |
Signpost Words | ‘PRAISE & PROPHECY’
Highlight Verses | 1 Chronicles 23:1-5
So when David was old and full of days, he made his son Solomon king over Israel. And he gathered together all the leaders of Israel, with the priests and the Levites. Now the Levites were numbered from the age of thirty years and above; and the number of individual males was thirty-eight thousand. Of these, twenty-four thousand were to look after the work of the house of the Lord, six thousand were officers and judges, four thousand were gatekeepers, and four thousand praised the Lord with musical instruments, "which I made," said David, "for giving praise." NKJV
Some Observations |
So, David now sets in order that great ship of state which is Israel. The political and religious areas, together with the army are set to their crews, watches, responsibilities and duties. When the Tabernacle in the wilderness was moved from place to place, strong Levites were the porters of the Lord, coming into their duties in their full strength of thirty years. In the settled temple to come, around the capital city of Jerusalem to which the nation would flock for sacrifice, this great and increased work would require more servants and so to increase manpower, David lowers the Levite serving age to twenty. God-led adaptability, still not violating Scriptural integrity.
A Call To Action |
The New Testament church also has its order and servants and framework of operation. Though exceptionally and culturally adaptable, in the same way, Scriptural integrity must not be violated.
