EVENING | PAULINE EPISTLES | BOOK 50 of 66 | PHILIPPIANS 2
Signpost Words | ‘TRAIN UP’
Highlight Verses | Philippians 2:19-24
But I trust in the Lord Jesus to send Timothy to you shortly, that I also may be encouraged when I know your state. For I have no one like-minded, who will sincerely care for your state. For all seek their own, not the things which are of Christ Jesus. But you know his proven character, that as a son with his father he served with me in the gospel. Therefore I hope to send him at once, as soon as I see how it goes with me. But I trust in the Lord that I myself shall also come shortly. NKJV
Some Observations |
As elucidated in our Old Testament readings these last two mornings, there was a necessity for mentored apprentices in the service of the Lord in His Temple, in judgments, in weights, measures, music, order, singing, access, door keeping, and well, you name it! Paul had his platoon with him, and part of that unit were not only seasoned disciples, but mentored apprentices ready to see and do and to take over the work and to take it forward. Timothy was one of those folk.
A Call To Action |
All Christian leaders should make plans to work themselves out of a job and work someone else into the role. This is basic discipleship and it is incumbent upon all leaders of any and every sort within the Christian church to put this practice into place. Pity the church that has no willing young men to come and watch and learn. Indeed, weep for the church whose present leadership makes no attempt to replace itself, yes, wail for such a church, whose current leadership is not deemed by God to be worthy of reproduction. Now then
