EVENING | PAULINE EPISTLES |BOOK 52 of 66 | 1 THESSALONIANS 1 |Signpost Words | ‘WATCHING & WAITING’
Some Observations |
Now here is a church born in blood and sacrifice. Here is a church who was so heavenly minded that thy became of immense earthly use. He is a church with a much talked of testimony. He is a church watching and waiting for Jesus, fully involved in missionary activity. Indeed, it is this thankfulness from being delivered from ‘the wrath to come’ and their ‘time of the end’ expectation which propelled them into action. They were salt and not sugar, ‘sonlight’ and not twilight.
A Call To Action |
Whenever the church awakes in the West, it is always preceded by end-time-ready millennial fervor. For sure, kook’s will arise and need correction, but better fervent kooks than churches who have pitched their tents in Sodom and joined the local council. Better churches that have their eyes on the heavenly city than are here for the sake of earthly cities. Better people who fear the wrath to come than wallow in celebration worship experiences in noisy graveyards.
Highlight Verses | 1 Thessalonians 1:6-10
And you became followers of us and of the Lord, having received the word in much affliction, with joy of the Holy Spirit, so that you became examples to all in Macedonia and Achaia who believe. For from you the word of the Lord has sounded forth, not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but also in every place. Your faith toward God has gone out, so that we do not need to say anything. For they themselves declare concerning us what manner of entry we had to you, and how you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God, and to wait for His Son from heaven, whom He raised from the dead, even Jesus who delivers us from the wrath to come. NKJV
