MORNING | HISTORICAL BOOKS
BOOK 10 of 66 | 2 SAMUEL
Signpost Words | ‘BOUNCE BACK BLESSINGS!’
Highlight Verses | 2 Samuel 7:8c-11
“I took you from the sheepfold, from following the sheep, to be ruler over My people, over Israel. And I have been with you wherever you have gone, and have cut off all your enemies from before you, and have made you a great name, like the name of the great men who are on the earth. Moreover, I will appoint a place for My people Israel, and will plant them, that they may dwell in a place of their own and move no more; nor shall the sons of wickedness oppress them anymore, as previously, Also, YAHWEH tells you that He will make you a house.” (NSB)
Some Observations |
Thus far, David’s journey with God has been both a traumatic and testing one. That particular roller-coaster ride is going to get more violent as his life proceeds. Even so, here is David, blessed by God and settled on Zion, looking out from his plush, cedar-paneled rooms at the tented -tabernacle of God and saying, “I will build God a house!” We all have mixed motives for every decision we make & no doubt David had his, yet among the mix of the drivers of our decision making is always a core driver, an over-riding factor, a main motive, and I am convinced that David’s main motive for wanting to build God a house is very clear and very simple. He wanted to bless God.
Final Reflections |
I believe the prophet Nathan, David’s personal chaplain, affirmed the core purity of David’s intention by affirming his decision. God, however, had other plans, and yet was obviously ‘moved’ by David’s heart intention, and so much so, I say so much so, that His declared intention was now to establish and bless the house of David forever!
EVENING | HISTORICAL BOOKS
BOOK 11 of 66 | 1 Chronicles
Signpost Words | ‘PRAYERS FROM ‘THE BACKSIDE’
Highlight Verses | 1 Chronicles 17:16 & 23-27
Then King David went in and sat before the Lord; and he said: "Who am I, O Lord God? And what is my house, that You have brought me this far? "And now, O Lord, the word which You have spoken concerning Your servant and concerning his house, let it be established forever, and do as You have said. So let it be established, that Your name may be magnified forever, saying, 'The Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, is Israel's God.' And let the house of Your servant David be established before You. For You, O my God, have revealed to Your servant that You will build him a house. Therefore Your servant has found it in his heart to pray before You. And now, Lord, You are God, and have promised this goodness to Your servant. Now You have been pleased to bless the house of Your servant, that it may continue before You forever; for You have blessed it, O Lord, and it shall be blessed forever." (NKJV)
Some Observations |
I have seen boxers be put on their backsides. Not so much on their backs and knocked out, but instantaneously knocked back and knocked down. A punch that came out of nowhere, caught them unawares and unprepared and put them on their backside, leaving them looking up in amazement and disbelief. “Goodness me,” they said (or words to that effect,) “I didn’t see that one coming.”
Final Reflections |
O to be so knocked down by God with such overwhelming blessings that they would leave us ‘aghasting’ for the breath of thankfulness!
